When collecting nickel alloy turnings of one spec it is very important to make sure they do not get mixed in with nickel alloy turnings of a different spec. Even a small contamination of a different alloy can significantly devalue the scrap price of turnings. Take for example, a machine shop collection Incoloy 800 (32% Ni 0% Mo) that accidentally mixes in scrap turnings of Hastelloy B (62% Ni 28% Mo). The scrap yard will not be able to sell the Incoloy 800 as Incoloy 800 because the scrap turnings have a few percentage units of Mo. This small contamination of Mo considerably devalues the scrap turnings. |
